Waveform Browser:
Here we can get access to the different factory waveform
banks and you can select a waveform within a bank. Clicking on the dropdown
menu brings up a window with the waveform banks on the left and the individual
waveforms are listed on the right and you can scroll through the list and select
by clicking on the one you want then click on the cross to close the browser. The
waveform browser contains the following banks
• SQ80 Waveforms: These are the original waveforms of the SQ80.
• Transwaves: In this bank the available waves have different behavior depending
of their type. When one of the Transwaves is selected the 2 modulation (mod
param) inputs become available. There is also a white fader that sets the initial
start point within the waveform. The 2 modulation sources allow you to scan
through the contents on the Transwave or wavetable in a musical or at least
interesting way and can really bring a sound to life and fill it with movement.
The classic waveforms have a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control which
is the white fader on the visualiser. The transcient waveforms are looping and
their PWM can be modulated by the white fader too. The X- waveforms are the
original VFX transwaves (aka wavetables) and here the white fader controls the
wavetable playback position.
♪
: When you select a transwave in the waveform browser, the waveform in the visualiser can be
dragged around to morph the transwave.
• SQ80 and ESQ1 Hidden Waves: Here we have the mysterious hidden waves from
the SQ-80 and its sybling, the ESQ1. Many of these can give unmusical but quite
ambient sounding results but are a great source of experimentaion.
•
Copy to DCO:
This function allows you to copy the settings of one DCO to another.
•
Octave:
lets you shift the basic tuning of the Oscillator up 4 octaves or down 2
octaves.
•
Semi (mod param):
lets you shift the basic tuning of the Oscillator up or down
12 semitones. This parameter has 2 modulation inputs. I'll explain a little more in
depth about the modulation parameters at the end of the chapter.
•
Fine:
lets you shift the basic tuning of the Oscillator up or down 100 cents.
