Carefully read p. 21 (ENGINE OIL) and
p. 36 (MAINTENANCE).
Remember:
1 miles = 1.6 km
1 km = 0.625 miles
Check the engine oil level every 500 km,
change it after the first 1000 km and suc-
cessively every 6000 km, see p. 40
(CHANGING THE ENGINE OIL AND THE
OIL FILTER).
To carry out the checking:
Position the vehicle on firm and
flat ground.
U
Stop the engine and let it cool down for
at least ten minutes, in order to allow the
oil to flow back to the oil pan and to cool
down.
U
Start the engine, see p. 30 (STARTING)
and let it idle for about one minute, in or-
der to ensure the filling up of the oil tank.
U
Stop the engine.
U
Keep the vehicle in vertical position, with
the two wheels resting on the ground.
The non-performance of the op-
erations described above may
result in a wrong measurement of the
level.
U
Unscrew and extract the plug/dipstick
(1).
U
Clean the part in contact with the oil with
a clean cloth.
U
Insert the plug/dipstick in the filling hole
(2) completely, without tightening it.
U
Withdraw the plug/dipstick (1) again and
read the oil level on the graduated mark-
ing:
MAX
= maximum level
MIN
= minimum level
The difference between "
MAX
" and
"
MIN
" is about 300 cm
#
.
U
The level is correct if the oil reaches ap-
prox the "
MAX
" mark on the dipstick.
Never exceed the "MAX" mark,
nor leave the oil below the "MIN"
mark, in order to avoid serious
damage to the engine.
U
If necessary, top up the engine oil tank
through the filling hole (2), after extract-
ing the plug/dipstick (1).
