8.6 DrIVING TECHNIQUES

8.7 TrANSfEr
techniques for transferring to/from the
wheelchair should be practiced well with
the persons involved. Here, we give some
important advice for preparation of the
chair:
With or without companion - sideways.
Before transfer:
•
the wheelchair should be placed as close
as possible to the destination of the
transfer.
•
Pull the wheelchair backwards 50-100 mm
in order to make the front castors turn
forward.
•
lock the brakes.
•
tilt the chair to horizontal position.
•
remove leg support and arm support on
the side of the transfer.
With or without companion – forwards.
before transfer:
•
the wheelchair should be placed as close

transfer.
