IP Addressing
(cont) • If interface addressing is used, and the operator has no need to view each NMS radio
path as a separately identifiable network within their routing plan, then the interface
addressing for LINK NMS ports should be set such that they are shown to assume the
address of the router, the Ethernet port, by entering an IP address of 0.0.0.0 and a
subnet mask of 255.255.255.255.
Note: The radio path for NMS is handled as a proprietary protocol link, which means
that no real IP addressing is required on these ports. However, to maintain
good routing practice it is recommended that LINK NMS ports are addressed
such that they are shown to assume the address of the router, the Ethernet
port.
• The V.24 maintenance port can also be uniquely numbered under interface
addressing, but this would only to apply when it is used to connect to a router, or
similar device. Otherwise it may be left with its default address.
• When the IP address is changed in the Single IP Address screen, or is changed for the
Ethernet Port in the Interface Addressing screen, then the IP address of the node, as
viewed in the status bar at the bottom of every CT screen, changes to the newly
entered address once the Send button is clicked.

• Over 9500 MXC radio links a proprietary protocol is used for network management
transport. As a consequence, network addressing rules for two routers (9500 MXC
nodes) connected
on the same radio network do not apply.
Note: Typical IP networks require the network portion of the IP address to be the
same for routers connected to the same network.
