Settings
Service Set ID (SSID)
An identifier that stations must use to be able to communicate with an AP. Aironet recommends
assigning or changing the SSID on the Express Setup page [Summary Status > Setup > Express Setup].
You can enter non-ASCII characters in the SSID by typing a backslash ( \ ), a lower-case x, and the
characters to represent the non-ASCII character. For example,
\xbd
inserts the symbol
½
.
Allow “Broadcast” SSID to Associate?
Allows you to choose whether devices that do not specify an SSID (devices that are “broadcasting” in
search of an AP to associate with) are allowed to associate with the AP.
Yes
The default setting; allows devices that do not specify an SSID (devices that are
“broadcasting” in search of an AP to associate with) to associate with the AP.
No
Devices that do not specify an SSID (devices that are “broadcasting” in search of an AP to
associate with) are
not
allowed to associate with the AP. The SSID used by the client device
must match that of the AP.
Data Rates (Mb/sec)
The range of data transmission rates in megabits per second. The system will always attempt
transmission at the highest rate selected. In case of obstacles or interference, the system will step down
to the highest rate that will allow data transmission. For each of four rates, the pull-down menu lists
three options:
Basic (default)
Allows transmission at this rate for all packets, both unicast and multicast. At least one data
rate must be set to Basic. Low Basic rates slow performance but increase range.
Yes
Allows transmission at this rate for unicast packets only.
No
Does not allow transmission at this rate.
Transmit Power
The power level of radio transmission. This setting is government-regulated and must conform to
established standards for the country of operation. In general, regulations define the highest acceptable
power level. To reduce interference or conserve power, users can move to a lower setting.
Frag. Threshold (256-2338)
The size at which packets will be fragmented (i.e., sent as several pieces instead of as one block).
Choose a setting within the range of 256 to 2338 bytes. Use a low setting in areas where
communication is poor or where there is a great deal of radio interference.
