Primary Port Selection (continued)
Adopt Primary Port Identity
Indicates whether this port adopts the settings of the Primary Port (MAC and IP addresses). For this
AP, the primary port and all non-primary ports adopt the primary port settings.
Note:
Administration of
some advanced Bridges requires distinguishing between the Ethernet and radio ports.
Port Identification
This section is common to all Identification pages. It displays both default and current identification for
MAC Address, IP Address and IP Subnet Mask. Changing a default address on this AP can have serious
consequences including the chance of losing network connectivity or forcing a re-boot of the system. See
the Express Setup Page for an alternate place to modify station identification [Summary Status > Setup >
Express Setup].
MAC Address
This field displays the MAC address assigned by the manufacturer.
Default IP Address
This field allows the assignment or change of the Internet Protocol (IP) address of a station. The
significance of such a change depends on whether or not DHCP is enabled for the network. If DHCP is
not enabled, this field is the IP address. If DHCP is enabled, this field will only provide the IP address
if no DHCP server responds with an IP address for the AP.
Default IP Subnet Mask
The number used to identify the subnetwork, so that the IP address can be recognized on the LAN. If
DHCP is not enabled, this field is the subnet mask. If DHCP is enabled, this field will only provide the
subnet mask if no DHCP server responds to the AP’s DHCP request.
Current IP Address
This field displays the IP address currently assigned to or used by the station. This will be the same
address as the default IP address unless DHCP is enabled. If DHCP is enabled and a server responded
to the AP’s DHCP request, this field displays the IP address that has been dynamically assigned to the
station for the duration of its lease on the network. It might not match the default IP address.
Current IP Subnet Mask
This field displays the IP subnet mask currently assigned to or used by the station. This will be the
same subnet mask as the default subnet mask unless DHCP is enabled. If DHCP is enabled and a server
responded to the AP’s DHCP request, this will be the subnet mask specified by the DHCP server.
