6-1 Basic Test Elements

There are six basic test elements to define when setting up a test for

any device. They are accessed from various interfaces in the SmarTest

software, and these test element definitions are stored in the device

directory. The basic test elements are:

• Pin (device signal)

• Levels (DC levels for each pin)

• Timing (format and edge)

• Vector or pattern (state of each pin)

• Test function (AC or DC)

• Pin attributes

Pin

The Pin Configuration window is the first setup window that must be

completed before you can test a new device. If the Pin Configuration

details have not been entered, the software will not let you enter details

about your device in any other setup window.

After deciding how the DUT board wiring allocates the tester channels

to the DUT pins, you have to enter this information into the software

using the Pin Configuration window.

The 93000 SOC software arhitecture is based on the

pin name

, and not

the pin number or tester channel numbers. The pin file will have the

pin name, pin type and tester channel associated to a particular pin

name of the device.

Levels

When testing devices it is common to use many different driver and

receiver specifications that are not the same and are not using the

same signal levels. For example, a TTL interface uses a 5 V level, while

HSTL uses a 1.8 V level. This means the levels for low (0) and high (1)

will be different for these interfaces.
