Installing 7890/7820/6890/6850 GC Columns



5975/5977 Series MSD Operating Manual

Hand-tighten the nut. Ensure the position of the column does not change as
you tighten the nut. Do not over tighten the nut.

Tighten the nut in the clockwise direction. Continue to tighten until you feel
the ferrule grip the column.

Check the GC oven to ensure that the column does not touch the oven walls.

Install the tip seal and spring on the GC/MS interface. (See

“To Install the

Interface Tip Seal”

on page 44.) Do not use a tip seal or spring with an EI SS

or Inert source. The interface socket on these sources does not allow the tip
seal installation to fit. (See

Figure 44

on page 142.)
