Table 5
Problems, Causes and Solutions (continued)
Problem
Check
Possible Cause
Solution
Flame tripping hi
Limit
Flame too hot
Reduce gas pressure
Vaporizer tripping hi
limit
Vaporizer coil too hot
Adjust location to run cooler
Reduce gas pressure
Burner does not
ignite (does not fire
up)
Ignitor gap
Ignitor gap too large
Set gap to 0.07" (1.8mm)
Ignition Transformer/
Wire
No spark being
generated
If no spark present after checking
ignitor, remove wire from ignition
transformer on DSI board with
insulated handle pliers hold ignition
wire 1/4" from transformer terminal
if no spark is arcing across the gap
then replace DSI board if spark is
present then check ignition wire for
continuity, if none then replace
ignition wire.
Ignitor position
Incorrect ignitor
position
correct ignitor position if required
Fuel Supply
Insufficient or no fuel
Check tank pressure and level
Ensure all valves are open
Check for frosting of fittings on Liquid
propane units
Check regulator setting, insure
adequate pressure to light heater
Fuse
1.5 amp fuse blown
Check and replace if necessary
Solenoid Valves
Solenoid Valves not
opening
Ensure valves are opening during trial
for ignition period, a sharp click
should be heard and felt when
touching solenoid body during
lighting attempt.
Temperature
Controller
Control setting too
high or controller is
defective
Set controller to below ambient
temperature prior to lighting
attempt, replace if defective
Burner Flame too
yellow
Static Pressure
Static pressure too
high
Wherever possible remove the
excessive static pressure situation
If possible upsize fan to next larger
size
Reduce gas pressure and run heater
at lower temp rise
Heater cannot
maintain
temperature
Regulator
Regulator setting too
low
Increase gas pressure
Fuel Supply
Inadequate fuel
supply
Check tank pressure and ensure gas
line sizing is correct
AXIAL FAN HEATER – LP AND NG-FIRED HEATER
