2.3. Heater Safety
Fire and explosion hazards, as well as carbon monoxide poisoning could occur if the heater is
misused. To avoid serious injury or death:
• Shut off and lock out or disconnect power and close valve at
gas source before inspecting or servicing the heater, or when
not in use.
• Do not operate the heater if not properly connected to an
aeration fan.
• Use the heater only with the gas types intended, connecting
alternate fuel sources to the heater can result in fires.
• Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and
liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.
• Do not remove covers, touch, or service internal components
during operation.
• After burner shutoff, allow the fan to run for five minutes
before removing cover(s).
• Do not use the heater where a high concentration of grain
dust, such as milled grain dust or, flammable liquids or vapors
exist
• Never allow anyone to enter the grain bin when a fan and
heater is operating. Gases given off by the burner (including
carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide) could cause death.
• Never use the heater to heat a building, shed, barn, etc.
because of the hazards posed by the flame and by the output
of carbon monoxide.
2.4. Gas Leak Hazards
If You Smell Gas:
• Turn off gas at the source if possible.
• Do not try to light or relight any appliance.
• Extinguish any flames and remove any sources of ignition from the vicinity of the bin.
• Do not touch any electrical switch.
• Evacuate all personnel from the vicinity of the source of the smell.
• Immediately call your gas supplier. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.
• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.
