Important
Required: Make sure the supply tank has a properly sized relief valve, a vapor tap, and a liquid tap
with a rapid flow shutoff valve to stop the flow of propane in case of a break in the gas line. The
liquid tap should have a rapid flow shutoff valve to stop the flow of propane if a fuel line breaks. The
rapid flow valve should have a capacity of about 4 GPM (15 liters per minute).
• The inside of the supply tank must be free of all contaminants. Raise one end of the liquid propane supply
tank as shown in
.
• In very cold weather, propane-fueled heaters may not be able to reach the desired operating temperature
because propane vapor pressure is very low when propane is cold. The tank can be warmed with an electric
blanket that has been approved for such uses.
• The fuel line between the supply tank and the heater should provide a pressure drop of 1 psi (6.9 kPa).
When opening the rapid flow valve, open it part way only, allow the pressure to equalize
between the line and tank. After the pressure has equalized, the excess flow valve should be
opened all the way. Consult with your propane supplier for further information.
Important
Do not use supply tanks for propane that have previously been used for anhydrous ammonia.
Anhydrous ammonia residue will rapidly corrode the brass components. Fuel contaminants can also
cause sooting and lead to ignition problems. If the fuel supply contains anhydrous ammonia or other
contaminants this will void the warranty.
Important
Oil entering the heater fuel system will void the warranty on fuel train components. Help prevent oil
sediment from entering the fuel system by propping the valve end of the tank higher than the other
end. Also, follow the installation instructions in this section to prevent oil from entering the fuel system.
