TRACTOR REQUIREMENTS AND FIELD
OPERATION
On average flat ground conditions, a minimum of
seven drawbar horsepower per foot of width will be
required to pull the mulcher. This requirement will
vary depending on types of soil, soil conditions,
operating depth of the teeth, and the type of rollers
used on your machine.
The tractor must have two remote outlets and have
a pressure of at least 1600 psi. Recommended
minimum drawbar horsepower:
21’ - 150 hp
25’ - 175 hp
The machine is capable of working at speeds up to 8
mph (max). However, the machine will perform the
best between 4 and 6 mph. At this speed, the
machine will provide maximum tooth action and
maximum clod breaking action from the front and
rear rollers.
The mulcher may be used to firm seedbeds after
planting by not engaging the spring teeth.
For best seed germination, it is recommended that
the mulcher be used just prior to planting. This
utilizes the best combination of factors required for a
good seed bed.
The machine should be raised to the transport
position prior to turning in the field. Turning the
mulcher in the working position will result in
excessive strain on the spring teeth and the roller
gangs. Thus, reducing the life of the machine.
Be sure the tractor is in motion when lowering the
spring tines into the ground or when raising the tines
out of the ground.
Never back up with the spring tines in the ground.
The mulcher should not be used in wet field
conditions or when mud clings to all of the rollers at
one time. The soil will be adversely affected and
scraper life will decrease.
