INSTALLATION
3.1
INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
1.
It is recommended that the redundant system should be installed in a rack cabinet.
2.
Regardless of the installation position, ensure that there is a clearance of at least 12 inches
(30 cm) between the air intakes (front of the unit), air exhaust (back of the unit) and any
surface which may obstruct air flow.
3.
As the redundant system of SSPAs is connected to an output waveguide system, the rack-
mount cabinet system has to be fixed to the floor (bolted to a concrete floor or to a structural
member in the floor). The cabinet has holes in the lower corners for 3/8” or ½” bolts. An
optional stability plate may be used; the stability plate is bolted to the floor, then the cabinet
is bolted to the stability plate.
4.
To maintain the full EMI and EMC integrity of this equipment, the ground bar of the cabinet
must be bonded to an Integrated Ground Plane or an Isolated Ground Plane Network. The
purpose of this is to mitigate the damaging effects to equipment from Electrostatic Discharge
and Lightning. Except for the AC power supply modules, all the equipment in the rack-
mount system relies on the rack itself for grounding. Therefore, the ground bar of the rack
must be properly connected to protective earth before operating the system.
3.2
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Note that each amplifier is assigned either an ‘A’ or ‘B’ designation based on its mounting
position on the rack
1.
Install the first unit (B) on a rack in lower (bottom) position, with the waveguide output
facing the rear.
2.
Install the second unit (A) on the same rack in the upper (top) position, just above the first
unit.
3.
Assemble the waveguide switch assembly to the RF output of each amplifier using eight
#10-32x1/2” screws and eight #10 lock washers per SSPA. Finger tight all screws.
4.
Connect the output of the waveguide switch using eight #10-32 x 1/2” screws, and eight #10
lock washers to the waveguide leading of the antenna.
5.
Connect the RF input splitter’s outputs to RF input of each of SSPA (semi-rigid cables are
provided)
6.
Connect the connector labeled ‘TOP’ of the Redundant Interface cable to the redundant
interface connector (J6) of amplifier ‘A’ (top amplifier). Similarly, connect the connector
labeled ‘BOTTOM’ of the Redundant Interface cable to redundant interface connector (J6) of
amplifier ‘B’ (bottom amplifier).
7.
Tighten all the screws around the RF output of SSPA ‘A’ using a ‘star’ pattern in order to
achieve uniform contact across the entire surface of the flange. Repeat with SSPA ‘B’.
