Chapter 3

Operation

MENU STRUCTURE

The ISU 512e uses a multilevel menu structure to access its configura-
tion options and activate its feature set. The menu structure can be ac-
cessed in several ways:

•

Through the front panel (see Front Panel and Front Panel Menu on
page 3-8).

•

Through a VT 100 terminal interface connected to the EIA232
MAINT PORT

(see Terminal Menu on page 3-1).

•

Via a Telnet connection.

•

Remotely from another ISU 512 or ISU 512e (see SPV Password
(Remote Supervision)

on page 6-11).

The latter three methods all display the same multilevel terminal
menu system from which all configuration options and device opera-
tions are accessible. The front panel displays a similar, although some-
what abbreviated, form of this multilevel structure. This chapter
briefly describes ISU 512e terminal menu and front panel menu struc-
ture, navigation, and operation. Chapters 4 through 7 describe the
menu options and operation in detail.

Terminal Menu

The ISU 512e is shipped with the factory default configuration. Con-
nect any VT 100 or VT 220 type terminal emulator to the EIA232
MAINT PORT

. The default rate is 9600 baud 8-N-1. No flow control

is necessary.
