Specify the font appearance and color. If the
font of the character you select is “remembered”
(assigned to the bullet character), the Font Family
and Font Style options are dimmed. (See “Editing
and adding bullet characters” on page 48.)
Note:
An option name in parentheses, such as
(Adobe Garamond Pro) or (12 pt), indicates the
default formatting using the first character of the
paragraph. You can override this default by selecting
a specific font setting. If you change the font settings
but want to return them to the same as the first
character in the paragraph, choose the top option in
the appropriate menu, such as (Text Font Size) or
(Text Font Family).

To change the bullet or number position, do any
of the following, and then click OK:

For Position, select Hanging or Flush Left.

To change the distance between the left margin
and the text, specify Left Indent and First Line
Indent settings. (For details on setting indents,
see InDesign Help.)

Specify the Tab position. If Flush Left is selected
for Position, the Tab setting determines the
amount of space between the bullet or number
and the first character in the paragraph. If
Hanging Indent is specified for Position, the Tab
setting value must be between the Left Indent
and First Line Indent Values.
Editing and adding bullet characters
If you don’t want to use one of the existing bullet
characters, you can add other bullet characters to
the Bullet Character grid. A bullet character that is
available in one font may not be available in
another font. You can choose whether or not the
font is remembered with any bullet character you
add.
If you want to use a bullet found in a specific font
(such as the pointing hand from Dingbats), be
sure to set the bullet to remember that font. If you
are using a basic bullet character, it is probably best
not to remember the font, since most fonts have
their own version of that bullet character.
Depending on whether you select the Remember
Font with Bullet option, a bullet you add can
reference either a Unicode value and a specific font
family and style or just a Unicode value.
Note:
Added bullets that have only the Unicode
value applied (without a remembered font) will
appear with a red “u” indicator, as in the Glyph
palette.
