APPENDIX A. INSTRUMENT MENU STRUCTURE
Top Level items listed in the following are in CAPS for clarity, while on the instrument
display will be normal, i.e.
PICK
will be shown as
Pick
and
AVERAGE
as
Average
.
PICK
Standard
Picks a standard for color difference calculations
Active
Picks a sample from the set of stored measurements
CAL CHECK
Prompts user to measure the white calibration sample
on battery door. If the measurement is beyond specifica-
tion, the unit will tell so user and suggest a recalibration,
which can be found under set-up
AVERAGE
Average Off
Disables sample averaging mode
Average On
Enables averaging, which allows user to measure a single
sample multiple times to average over surface effects.
Adjust Ave Cnt
Select using up-down arrow keys the number of
measurements to be averaged
BATTERY CHECK
Unit checks batteries and displays a “Percent left” before
unit can not accurately measure and automatically inhibits
the measurement function.
SERVICE MENU
User will be prompted for a security code. Not for general
users.
SETUP
Note that the resident program in the PC to which the unit
is tethered can disable user access to these set-up routines.
If the access is disabled, the user will be given a message
indicating that he can not select the set-up menu….
Display Mode
Allows user to enable/disable the supported display
modes:
X,Y,Z
The Tri-Stimulus values for the active
sample are displayed. They are computed using the
currently selected illuminant
L*,a*,b*
The CIELAB color coordinates are
displayed for the active sample using the currently
selected illuminant. The
L*
value is an indication of
sample lightness. The
a*
parameter indicates the
