All measurement error conditions, averaging operations, and menu operations are
functional while the instrument is Under PC Control. If a measure warning occurs the
operator is expected to use the square
MODE
or
DO
key to accept or reject the
measurement.
This describes the usual techniques used by application programs. It is possible for
application programs to control the display and keyboard. If this is the case the
documentation of the application program should describe the behavior of the instrument.
Communications reset
If the unit detects multiple signals on the serial input line which do not conform to
RS232-9600BAUD-1STOP-0PARITY-8DATA, it will respond by disabling its RS232
input and displaying a
COMM ERR= xxxx
message. After five seconds the instrument
will restart its communications and display the message
COMM Restarted
. Under ideal
conditions this type of error will not occur. However many external computer programs
will reset their communications hardware on transitions between programs. This often
creates a noise signal on the communications line. The operator may also force a
communications restart from the instrument by following the path
READY-to-MEASURE
MODE to Pick
UP to Setup
MODE to Display Mode
UP to Clear Samples
UP to Clear Standard
UP to Illuminant
UP to Temperatures
UP to Clear Comm Link
If you now press the square
MODE
key any communications errors will be cleared,
communications will be restarted, and the instrument will exit from Under PC Control.
If an external program has left the instrument in Under PC Control and the operator
wishes to perform measurements locally, the operator may either cycle power at the
instrument or follow the path above.
