THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL MENU
To review the use of the keypad discussed so far, the green
DO
key is used to initiate
measurements, the
UP
and
DOWN
arrow keys are used to select measurements and
displays, and the square
MODE
key is used to accept a displayed command or continue
from error conditions. When is unit is waiting for a keystroke and will respond to the
green
DO
key by starting a measurement we say the unit is in the
Ready-to-Measure
state.
Ready-to-Measure
is the important central state of the instrument. When the instrument
is in this state, the green
DO
key initiates a measurement. When the instrument is not in
this state, the green
DO
key returns the instrument to
Ready-to-Measure
. At any time
you are not sure of the instrument state, you can use the green
DO
key or turn the
instrument OFF and ON to return to the
Ready-to-Measure
state.
There are a group of additional operations which are accessed through the instrument
control menu. The instrument control menu can be represented as a tree which starts from
Ready-to-Measure
. This tree is entered by depressing the square
MODE
key. Exit the
tree back to
Ready-to-Measure
either by depressing the green
DO
key or by completing
an operation. Each point on the tree may have several branches. Each branch has a name
and the names are displayed two at a time, one on each display line. One of the two
choices will have the symbol
>
next to it. This symbol indicates the branch which will be
taken if you press the square
MODE
key. You may scroll the > symbol through the list
of branches with the
UP
and
DOWN
arrow keys. For example, if the display reads:
Pressing the square
MODE
key would select the
Pick
branch, pressing the green
DO
key
would return to
Ready-to-Measure
, and pressing the
DOWN
arrow key would change
the display to read:
Now the square
MODE
key would select the CAL CHECK branch. Depressing the
UP
arrow key
would have changed the display to read
Here the square
MODE
key would select the
SERVICE MENU
branch.
