Parallel operation, increase in capacity
For “n” number of power supply units connected in parallel the output current can
be increased to “n x Ir”. A parallel connection is recommended if the power supply
unit is not rated to provide the power required for the most powerful consumer load.
In this case, the consumer load should be supplied by several independent power
supply units. Up to max. 5 devices of identical type can be connected in parallel.

Parallel operation, redundancy
Redundant circuits are used to increase the operational reliability of the system in
case of errors (e.g. incorrect wiring, fuse trip in primary circuit, failure of individual
devices). If a fault occurs in the first power supply circuit (referred to as initial
fault), all loads are supplied by the second redundant circuit. For this purpose, the
power supply units connected in parallel are rated such as to ensure that the total
power requirements of all loads can be entirely covered by a single power supply
unit.
