Caller ID
A service provided by your
telephone company which displays
the incoming callers name and/or
telephone number (when
available). A subscription fee is
usually required. May also be
known as Call Identification, Call
Display or Calling Line
Identification (CLID).
Callers List
A list where an incoming caller’s
name and number (when available
from your telephone company) is
stored. When the list is full, the
oldest name/telephone number is
removed. You are generally
required to subscribe to a
telephone company service such as
Caller ID or Call Waiting ID.
Call Waiting
A service provided by your
telephone company which alerts
you to a second, incoming call while
on a call. A subscription fee is
usually required.
Call Waiting ID
A service provided by your
telephone company which displays
the Call Waiting caller’s name and/
or telephone number. A
subscription fee is usually required.
May also be known as Caller ID on
Call Waiting, Visual Call Waiting or
Call Waiting Deluxe.
Base
The device and stand in which the
Handset rests to charge.
Directory
A list where any names and
telephone numbers you choose
may be permanently stored.
Digital Spread
Spectrum (DSS)
A method of encoding and
transmitting voice signals.
Handset
The device used to make and
receive calls or access lists.
Long Distance Prefix (LDP)
Traditionally the number 1, and is
used to make long distance calls.
Overseas calls would use a series of
numbers for the LDP.
Message Waiting
A service provided by your local
telephone company in which a
signal is sent to your phone
indicating that you have a message.
A subscription fee is usually
required.
Options
A list of functions, preprogrammed
into your phone, which you may
change to control how your phone
works.
