Special safety instructions for this machine
•
Due to the length of the machine, pay attention to overhead power lines and never exceed the
necessary safety distance (> 15m).
•
Check the machine before each use to ensure that it is in perfect condition (fixed blades, func-
tioning of the levers, etc.).
•
Do not use the machine if the cutting mechanism (saw/shears/nylon cutter/knives) is defective
or badly worn or not fixed.
•
Observe the specified safety distance from people and other objects.
•
Never allow children to operate the machine.
•
Always wear long trousers and sturdy shoes when working. Never operate the machine with
sandals or barefoot.
•
Avoid operating the machine when the grass is wet.
•
Always pay attention to safe footing when working on slopes.
•
Do not work on terrain that is too sloped.
•
Be especially attentive when changing the working direction on slopes.
•
Walk while operating the machine, but do not run.
•
Always use both hands to hold the machine during operation.
•
Be especially attentive when moving the machine backwards, or towards you.
•
Thoroughly inspect the work area and remove all stones, sticks, wires and other foreign objects.
•
Always familiarise yourself with your surroundings and be aware of possible hazards that you
may not be able to hear due to the noise of the machine.
•
When cutting, be careful not to come into contact with objects such as fence wire or plant sup-
ports. They could damage the cutting unit. Carefully inspect the hedge to be cut and remove
any wires or other foreign objects.
•
Keep your hands away from the cutting edges. Do not attempt to remove clippings while the
blades are still moving. Only remove trapped cuttings when the machine is switched off. A mo-
ment of carelessness when operating the machine can cause serious injury.
•
When the machine is switched off, carry it by the front handle so that the attached cutting ele-
ment faces away from your body. When transporting or storing the machine, put on the protec-
tive cover supplied (hedge trimmer/pole saw). Careful handling of the machine reduces the like-
lihood of accidental contact with the cutting elements.
•
Before starting the engine, make sure that the machine does not come into contact with any
objects.
•
Ensure that there is adequate distance between your feet and the blade(s).
•
The engine speed should always be kept at a level required to carry out the cutting work, and
should never be increased beyond what is necessary.
For hedge trimmers only:
•
After adjusting the working angle, check that both adjusting levers are firmly engaged. If one of
the adjustment levers remains open, the second could be unintentionally triggered by a branch
and the cutter bar could swing downwards.
For pole pruner (saw) only:
•
To avoid injury from falling branches, do not stand under the branches you are about to cut.
Watch out for branches that could jump back and cause injuries. Work at an angle of about 60°.
•
Be aware that kickback of the tool may occur.
•
Watch not only for branches to be cut, but also for falling material to avoid tripping hazards.
•
Do not cut wood that is lying on the ground and do not try to cut roots that are sticking out of
the ground. Be sure to avoid dipping the saw chain into the ground as this could blunt it.
For trimmers only:
•
Always use the shoulder strap provided.
•
Before working, check the area for objects such as pieces of metal, bottles, stones, etc. that could
be thrown up and injure the user!
