TROUBLESHOOTING
POWER PACK AND CHARGER
UNDERSTANDING BEEP SEQUENCES
The BMS (see page 28 for more info) is located inside the power pack and is fitted with a beeper to provide
audible notifications about the status of the power pack. Below you will find information on the meaning of the
beep sequences.
CHARGER STILL PLUGGED-IN
The BMS contains a safety interlock that will sound a warning and disable the throttle if the charger is still
plugged-in. This prevents damage if you accidentally forget & try to ride the motorcycle with the charger still
attached. This can be fixed by simply unplugging the charger from the motorcycle.
PACK EMPTY
If the power-pack is completely empty, an error-beep will sound and the BMS will disable the throttle. You cannot
ride the bike until you recharge the pack. If the Pack Empty error-beep still sounds after two hours of charging
time, call your Zero service representative. Your pack may need to be repaired or replaced.
TOO HOT
The Z-Force power pack contains internal temperature sensors. If the BMS measures excessive internal
temperatures, it will sound an error-beep and disable the throttle. You cannot ride the bike until the pack cools-
down. Place the bike in a cool, well-ventilated location and wait a few minutes before riding again. If the
Too Hot error-beep still sounds after the pack has had time to cool down, call your Zero service representative.
Your pack may need to be repaired or replaced.
PACK UNBALANCED
The Z-Force power pack contains many individual cells. The BMS continuously monitors the cells and tries to
keep them all “in balance” (at the same level-of-charge). If any of the cells are grossly out-of-balance, the BMS
will sound an error-beep and disable the throttle. You cannot ride the bike until the problem is resolved.
The solution to the problem is to plug-in the charger and allow the pack to charge for 24 hours. This will allow
the BMS to re-balance the cells in the pack. If the Pack Unbalanced error-beep still sounds after the pack has
spent more than 24 hours charging, call your Zero service representative. Your pack may need to be repaired
or replaced.
