2. Check for air leakage prior to initiating

fl

 ow through the dryer.

Repair all leaks prior to starting the dryer. To maintain dryer

performance, all leaks must be repaired. Most important are

leaks that might be identi

fi

ed on the outlet side of the dryer.

3. Verify the Purge Adjustment Valve is open.

4. Verify that the pre-

fi

lter drain is blowing freely to discharge

residual water from the system. If moisture is not being

discharged from the drain, rotate drain stem to the Automatic

position. Verify functionality of all drains ahead of the dryer.

5. Turn the

fi

eld disconnect switch to the ON position to apply

electrical power to the dryer. This will energize the Dryer

Controller. Use proper PPE when verifying that the voltage to

the Dryer Main Panel matches the voltage/phase listed on the

dryer Serial Plate. Do not apply electrical power to the ZPB

dryer until items 1 - 4 listed above have been veri

fi

 ed. Do not

apply power to the dryer or activate the dryer for operation until

the air system checks are completed.
• For dryers equipped with the Moisture Load Control (MLC)

option, do not install the Dew Point Transmitter until the dryer

has been in operation for at least 24 hours and is in a steady

state, with the Blue Moisture Indicator appearing blue in

color. See the Warning and instruction regarding installation

of the Dew Point Transmitter. Enter the SETTINGS Screen

(3/3) within the Dryer Controller and press the +/- key to de-

activate the MLC function until the Transmitter is installed.

Failure to follow this procedure will cause damage to the Dew

Point Transmitter and will void the Sensor Warranty.

6. The dryer main

fl

ow valves and purge valves are designed

to operate in a pressure range of 80 - 100 PSI. On dryers

equipped in NEMA 4 con

fi

guration, use the adjustment dial and

gauge on the Control Air Filter/Regulator to adjust the control

air pressure to not exceed 100 PSI. Check functionality of the

drain on the Control Air Filter (NEMA 1) or Filter/Regulator

(NEMA 4) to verify discharge of all accumulated liquid.

7. Press the ON Button on the dryer Controller to initiate dryer

operation.
• Observe the dryer in operation to verify that the operating

sequence is functioning properly. The Dryer Controller will

automatically sequence the valves. Do not allow the dryer to

continue operation if problems are observed.

• Set the Regeneration Purge Flow when the left tower is in the

regeneration mode. Refer to SECTION 6.4 of this Technical

Manual.

• Gradually open the outlet air shut-o

  valve (if equipped) and

allow the compressed air system to pressurize slowly.

8. Verify that the compressed air system remains pressurized.

9. Verify the TECHNICIAN and MAINTENANCE settings within

the Dryer Controller. Refer to SECTION 6.9 of this Technical

Manual for further instructions.
• Verify that the

fl

oat drain(s) on the air compressor after-cooler

is operating properly. It is important to note that debris from

the air system piping may interfere with operation of the

drain(s) and it is the responsibility of the installer to verify drain

functionality after the dryer is placed into operation. Drain

maintenance or cleaning of system debris is not covered

under the ZPB dryer warranty. Improper drain maintenance

will result in damage to the desiccant beds and will void the

warranty.

• Following the initial 30 minute period of operation, the mu

  ers

must be inspected and cleaned, or be replaced. De-energize

and depressurize the dryer before removing the mu

  ers.

Disassemble and clean the removable insert inside each mu

  er

core. Reassemble and reinstall mu

  ers prior to resuming dryer

operation. Mu

ers are consumable items and are not warranted

other than for manufacturing defects.

• Monitor the operation of the ZPB dryer and contact your

ZEKS Compressed Air Solutions Distributor if any problems

arise during the startup process.

• The

fl

oat drains on the ZPB dryer must be inspected daily to

ensure proper dryer operation.

• For dryers equipped with the Moisture Load Control (MLC)

option, install the Dew Point Transmitter following no less than

24 hours of dryer operation and only when the Blue Moisture

Indicator appears blue in color. Enter the SETTINGS Screen

(3/3) within the Dryer Controller and press the +/- key to re-

activate the MLC function.

• For dryers equipped with the Fail-To-Shift option, verify that

the pressures indicated on the Tower Pressure Gauges

match the pressures displayed on the Dryer Controller.

• Verify that alarms are cleared. Verify (if wired) PurgeSync

™

function. See SECTION 6.8 of this Technical Manual.

10. Following Startup and full commissioning of the dryer,

complete and mail the ZPB Warranty Startup Card.

Long-Term Storage

If the ZPB dryer has been in storage for an extended period of

time, the Blue Moisture Indicator (BMI) may appear gray in color.

To return the BMI to its correct blue color, follow the instructions

above to properly start the dryer. Depending on the length of time

the dryer was in storage, it will take between 8 and 12 hours for

the beaded media in the BMI to return to its normal blue color.

If it is known that the ZPB dryer will not be put into operation

immediately, a Long-Term Storage option can be ordered from

the factory.

!

   NOTICE

When opening the outlet valve, ensure drying tower gauge

maintains line pressure. Allowing the pressure in the dryer to

drop will result in an over

fl

 ow condition and potentially cause

valves to stop functioning.

!

   NOTICE

-80°F and -100°F dryer models require air

fl

 ow through the

dryer to lower the pressure dew point to design levels. Failure

to permit air

fl

ow through dryer (deadheading) will result in

elevated outlet dew points. Once air

fl

 ow is permitted, the

pressure dew point of the outlet air will gradually drop to

design levels.

!

   NOTICE

At initial start-up, observe the dryer through one or two

complete operating cycles, especially at the time of tower

shift. Verify that all systems are operating in proper order and

sequence. If the dryer is not functioning properly, contact your

ZEKS Distributor.

!

   NOTICE

DO NOT FLOW COMPRESSED AIR THROUGH THE DRYER

WHEN THE DRYER IS OFF. The desiccant beds will become

fl

ooded with moisture and the Warranty will be voided.
