9.0 MAINTENANCE AND SYSTEM CHECK
9.1 SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
DAILY MAINTENANCE FUNCTIONS:
• Check and record inlet pressure, temperature and
fl
ow.
Verify that it is within speci
fi
cations.
• Check tower pressure gauge readings are within operating
tolerance.
• Check dryer operation for proper cycling, depressurization
and re-pressurization.
• Check that the Pre
fi
lter drain is operating properly and that
there is no condensate discharged from Purge Mu
ffl
ers.
• Verify that pressure in purging tower is 3 PSIG or less. If
higher, mu
ffl
er replacement is recommended. See SECTION
10 in this Technical Manual.
• Check dryer Main Panel (NEMA 1) or Digital Controller
(NEMA 4) for Warnings or Alarms.
• Verify that Pre
fi
lter and After
fi
lter di
ff
erential pressure is
within operating limits. Replace elements and/or cartridges
as required.
• Check the Blue Moisture Indicator (BMI). Make sure air is
bleeding through the indicator. The indicator will appear blue
when the air is dried to design speci
fi
cations.
MONTHLY MAINTENANCE FUNCTIONS:
• Check condition of Mu
ffl
ers by reading tower Pressure Gauge
when the tower is in the re-generation cycle. If pressure is
above 3 psig, Mu
ffl
er replacement may be required.
• Check Pilot Air Filter Regulator
NOTE: ZEKS recommends the mu
ffl
ers be cleaned after initial
start-up to remove any desiccant dust generated during dryer
shipment. After running the dryer for the initial 30 minute period,
de-energize/depressurize the dryer and remove the mu
ffl
ers.
Disassemble and clean the removable insert inside the mu
ffl
er
core. Reinstall the mu
ffl
ers prior to operating dryer. This should
be repeated within the
fi
rst 7 days of operation.
SEMI-ANNUAL MAINTENANCE FUNCTIONS:
• Check outlet dew point. (MLC option only)
• Check Control Air Filter (NEMA 1) or Filter/Regulator (NEMA
4) element and clean or replace as required.
• Replace Pre
fi
lter and After
fi
lter elements and/or
cartridges.
ANNUAL MAINTENANCE FUNCTIONS:
• Check desiccant and replace if necessary.
• Inspect and clean Control Air Solenoid Valves, Check Valves
and Diaphragm Valves. Rebuild and / or replace as required.
• Test lights and switches, replace as necessary.
• Replace Drains on Pre
fi
lter and After
fi
lter.
• Test electrical components, replace as necessary.
• Check for loose electrical wiring connections and tighten as
required.
• Replace element in Control Air Filter (NEMA 1) or Filter/
Regulator (NEMA 4).
• Optional Dew Point Monitor must be calibrated or replaced.
EVERY TWO YEARS:
• Inspect valves and actuators. Angle-valve bonnets may
require replacement.
• -100
°
F Dryers - Rebuild Control Air Solenoid Valves
(Preventive).
• Replace Check Valves (Preventive).
9.2 PREFILTERS AND AFTERFILTERS
PREFILTERS - The Pre
fi
lter elements and/or cartridges must be
changed as often as required to prevent contamination of the
dryer desiccant beds.
The Pre
fi
lter and automatic drain must be checked daily. To
prolong
fi
lter element and/or cartridge life, it is recommended
that a mechanical air / moisture separator be placed immediately
before the pre
fi
lter.
AFTERFILTER - The purpose of the After
fi
lter is to remove
residual desiccant dust. Depending upon equipment application
and usage, frequency of
fi
lter element change will vary. It
is recommended that, at the minimum, the
fi
lter element be
changed every six months.
!
NOTICE
Should the drying system be overloaded and/or
malfunctioning, causing high pressure drop, the After
fi
lter
may prematurely plug. This problem can be avoided
by frequent inspection and proactive replacement of
the element and/or cartridge.
