5.2 Preparations
Trouble-free operation of the lifting unit depends not least on a correct and impeccable
assembly. For this reason, the DIN EN 12056-4 gives the following recommendations:
1. Rooms for sewage lifting units must be so large that next to and above all parts to
be operated and maintained a work room of at least 60 cm width or height must be

2. The set-up area must be horizontal and level. The set-up area must be suitable for
the weight of the lifting unit.
3. For room drainage with faeces lifting units, a pump sump (= deepening in the
ground) has to be arranged. Installation of a drainage pump in the pump sump is
recommended.
4. Lifting units have to be secured against buoyancy and twisting.
5. All pipelines have to be laid in such a way that they can run empty on its own. Seen

8. No other connections may be carried out on the pressure line. The minimum nominal
width of the pressure line is DN 80.
9. The pressure line of the lifting unit has to be guided with a bend over the locally

manual membrane pump and for the pressure line of the submersible pump in the
pump sump.
10. Pressure lines of sewage lifting units must not be connected to down pipes. They
must always be connected to vented manifolds or underground pipes.
11. Faeces lifting units have to be equipped with a check valve.

15. Lifting units should not be operated in the vicinity of living and sleeping rooms.

ure (not mandatory, but recommendable).
