Shutdown and Decommissioning
Power Off
Neither the Encoder or Decoder devices require any special preparation for powering down.
There are three methods to shut off a unit. Any of the methods may be used:
1. Remove the DC connector from the rear of the Encoder or decoder device. The Encoder or
Decoder device will be unpowered at this point, but the external power supply itself will still
be energized, so care should be paid to the handling of the low voltage DC power lead.
2. Remove the AC power plug from the ingress port to the external supply. Care should be
exercised as the AC power cord will still be energized.
3. Remove applied power to the AC power cord with an external power switch to the circuit
supply the AC mains.
Once the unit has been powered off using one of the above methods verify the powered-off
state by insuring that the PWR LED is not illuminated.
Decommissioning
To decommission a unit, first power the unit using method 2 from the above list and remove the
AC power cord from the mains.
Disconnect the cables, starting with the video cables, proceeding to the network cables and
then the accessory cables (IR, USB, audio) if installed.
The final electrical connection to be removed shall be the electrical connection made to the
Equipotential Stud on the rear of the unit. Remove ALL other cables prior to the EP stud cable.
Once all electrical cables are disconnected the unit may be mechanically unbolted or removed
from any containment that may be employed.
On removal of the unit, properly handle it and if disposing, do so in accordance with local
ordinances and in a WEEE approved fashion. The unit should be treated as electrical
equipment waste and handled thusly.
