2.6 FC-FFX2 FC-AL Interface
The (I/O) interface module provides an FC-AL interface via HSSDC-2 connectors for copper (Cu) or LC
optical cable connection. Each I/O or Loop Resiliency Circuit board houses Port Repeater chips that re-
drive the Fibre Channel signals. Each of the LRC I/O boards also houses a number of Port Bypass
circuits. The function of these circuits is to bypass the loop connections to empty drive bays or any disk
drive which is not operating correctly
Note
There are no external terminators required with Fibre Channel architecture and any drive may be hot
plugged during operation.
2.6.1 Connecting Multiple Enclosures
Multiple enclosures are connected together by using SFP to SFP patch cables. Expansion of the RS-
1600-FC-FFX2 system should be achieved by the use of RS-1600-FC2 enclosures, up to a maximum of
6 additional enclosures. A typical expansion configuration is shown in
Figure 2–12
.
Note
All SFPs on the RS-1600-FC2 are In and Out connectors, therefore in 1 x 16 Mode any SFP connectors
can be used in the FC2 enclosure.
Important
Loss of power to any enclosure within such a loop will cause the loop to fail.
