Chapter 6
PROGRAMMING
6.1 INTRODUCTION
The XVME-682 is fully PC/AT compatible. This means that it will run a wide range of
standard software designed for the IBM PC/AT standard. Because the XVME-682 is designed
to meet both the PC/AT and VMEbus standards, its programming capabilities exceed that of
either a typical PC/AT or VMEbus processor.
This chapter provides information required to program the XVME-682 module. The
presentation of this information will be as follows:
• Module memory map (as seen by the 80286 CPU)
• I / O port addresses, registers and descriptions
• Use of the VME master interface
• Use of the VME slave interface
• Interrupts
6.2 XVME-682 MODULE MEMORY MAP
Figures 6-1 and 6-2 show the XVME-682 Module memory maps as they would appear to the
80286 processor.
The XVME-682 dual-access memory appears as a contiguous 1 Mbyte (XVME-682/1/2) or 4
Mbyte (XVME-682/3/4) block to other processors residing on the VMEbus. Refer to section
2.4.9 for setting the address of dual access memory.
