PHASER 8550, 8500, & 8400 SERVICE SECTION

Ink Loader Assembly

The procedure for replacing the Ink
Loader Assembly is slightly different for
Phaser 8400 and Phaser 8500/8550
printers. On Phaser 8400 printers,
disconnect the Ink Loader data cable at
the printer frame. On Phaser 8500/8550
printers, disconnect the cable at the Ink
Loader Assembly, as shown to the right.

After replacing the Ink Loader Assembly
on Phaser 8500 and 8550 printers, use
the Control Panel’s hidden Service menu
to reset the Ink Loader. This allows the
printer to accurately count the number of
ink sticks used.

An error code will be displayed if you replace the Phaser 8500 or 8550 Ink
Loader Assembly without resetting the ink stick count.

The Phaser 8400, 8500, and 8550 Ink Loader
Assemblies are designed to hang off the rear of the
printer to expedite troubleshooting. For example, you
may need to watch the Printhead or Wiper Assembly to
visually determine the cause of failure. Hang the Ink
Loader Assembly by attaching its plastic hooks over
the Electronics Module as shown to the right.

Tilting the Printhead back can uncover an ink level
sensor inside the Printhead and trigger an ink melting
cycle. If the printer melts ink, it flows down into the
Ink Loader Assembly and can damage the “ink out”
sensors. If a sensor has been damaged, the printer will
display a 9,03x.xx error

several hours or days

 later,

after 2.5 inks sticks of a color have been melted.

To prevent ink from melting into the Ink Loader Assembly, never print with
the Ink Loader Assembly attached to the rear of the printer.

To disable the ink melt units, unplug the AC heater cable shown above.
