Determining Actual Usage
Counting Ink Sticks
Customers can print the
Usage
Profile
or
Printer Status Page to
view
information on ink consumption.
These pages indicate the average
coverage over the past 30 days and
during the life of the printer.
A field on the Phaser 8500/8550
Usage Profile
(shown to the right)
provides the actual count of the ink
sticks used for each color. The
Phaser 8400
Usage Profile
does
not
provide the ink stick count. Because
Phaser 8500 and 8550 printers have
“ink out” sensors for each color, they
are capable of counting the number
of inks sticks used. In contrast,
Phaser 8400 printers have one “ink
out” sensor that monitors all four
colors of ink.
A notch on each Phaser 8500/8550 ink stick
triggers an “ink out” sensor flag in the Ink
Loader Assembly, allowing the printers to
count ink sticks as they are used. If the printer
fails to detect a new ink stick after it
calculates approximately 2.5 ink sticks of that
color should have been melted, it displays an
error within the range 9,035.xx to 9,038.xx.
Loading chipped or broken ink sticks that do
not have the notch can cause the error. Other
possible causes include using non-Xerox inks
(NXI) that do not have the notch or a failed
Ink Loader Assembly.
Only Phaser 8500 and 8550 printers can count ink stick usage.
