Service Test Prints Lab
The Service Test Prints can be accessed using the hidden Service menu. To display the menu, a
special combination of Control Panel button presses is required. If a printer is available, use the
following procedure to access the Service Test Prints from “Ready To Print”, and then print the
pages indicated for reference when troubleshooting print-quality problems.

Press OK to enter the Test Prints menu.

Print the following Service Test Prints:
■
Weak/Missing Jets
■
Solid Fill prints of each primary color (CMYK)
Symptom-Based Troubleshooting Procedures
The symptom-based troubleshooting procedures provide a visual example of each print-quality problem
followed by the troubleshooting procedure. In general, the procedures assume that you have printed an
embedded page to isolate the problem to the printer. Problems that appear on embedded pages, such as the
Light Stripes Test Page , cannot be caused by the customer’s computer, network, or software application.
Each procedure begins with the user-level solutions that apply. Service parts should be replaced only after
attempting to solve the problem by replacing the specified supply items or performing cleaning procedures.

Scroll to Troubleshooting and
press OK .

Scroll to Service Tools and
press OK .
3.
Press and hold the UP arrow
button, and then press the
DOWN arrow button to
display the Service menu.
The Service Test Prints available on Phaser 8400 printers are not the same as
those available for Phaser 8500 and 8550 printers.
To avoid replacing expensive service parts, always follow the troubleshooting
steps in the specified order.
