10-3 Weekly inspections 10-4 Irregular inspections
In general, the following should be checked
weekly:
1. Visually check all ropes if there are
broken wires, kinking, crushing,
“
bird caging
”
,
popped cores or any other damage resulting in
distortion of the rope structure. Check lifting chain
for deformation, and excessive wear and rust.
2. Check the connection of rope end fittings,
pin and fixing devices. Also check cracks and
wear on sheaves and drums.
3. Check the structure of the crane, e.g.
boom for evidence of being damaged, bending,
buckling and excessive wear, as well as cracks of
welding, looseness of bolts and other fasteners.
4. Check high tension bolts according to
specified tightening torque.
5. Check hook block and slings for damage,
abnormal movement or wear. Check the threads
and nut of hook shank for excessive rotation due
to wear or rust.
6. Check load moment indicator, and
calibrate it according to the requirements in its
operation instructions.
7. Check hydraulic system for leakage.
8. Check brake and clutch for function.
9. Check tire for pressure, damage and wear.
Also check tightness of the tire bolts.
If the crane has not used for more than a
month but less than a year, it should be checked
according to items in daily check before reuse.
If for more than a year, it should be checked
according to items in weekly check before reuse.
10-5 Test requirements
Load test must be done to the cranes,
which have experienced overhaul or an accident
before reuse. The said overhaul means removal
or replacement of main load bearing structural
members, or repair of whole mechanism or
control system, but performance parameter and
specifications are not altered. Visual check and no-
load test are required before load test. During no-
load test, operational and control devices should
be easy to operate and reliable; all mechanisms
move smoothly and accurately, no creep, vibration
and shock occur, and limiting devices and
protecting devices work accurately and reliably.
Visual check and load test should be
performed according to requirements in GB/
T 5905. Tests should be carried out by qualified
persons.
After tests, load moment indicator should be
calibrated so as to meet requirements specified.
