3.1 Recommended photobiomodulation parameters
Photobiomodulation is the regulation of cell processes by light in precisely defined light re
-
gimes.
The photobiomodulation supports regular treatment processes and includes both biostimula
-
tion and bioinhibition. Therefore the correct settings for light parameters should be used:
Phototherapeutical window: 600 - 1000 nm.
- Energy current density: od 0,5 J/cm
2
- 5 J/cm
2
; most often 2,5–5 J/cm² or more for deeper
tissues.
- Power density: od 5 mW/cm2 - 100 mW/cm
2
; most often 10 mW/cm
2
do 30 mW/cm
2
range for surface tissues, 30 mW/cm
2
do 80 mW/cm
2
for deeper joints and
muscle tissues.
Acute conditions are treated once to twice per day, and chronic conditions
are treated twice to three times per week. Light therapy should be started
as soon as possible after the injury or prior medical treatment.
