12. NIMH AND NICD BATTERIES
a) Charging Batteries („CHARGE“)
The charging current to be set depends on the battery capacity and is usually 1C.
However, you should observe the battery manufacturer’s instructions.
The value „1C“ means that the charging current is equivalent to the battery’s capacity.
A charge current of 3 A therefore is required for a 3000 mAh-NiMH battery.

Depending on the battery connected and its structure, a charging current of 1C may
not be possible. For example, receiver batteries usually comprise mignon/AA cells
that will not survive a charging current this high without damage.
In general: The smaller the battery (the individual cell), the lower the maximum
charging current. Many NiMH Mignon/AA cells with a capacity of approx. 2000 mAh
allow a charging current of 400 - 500 mA for a fast charge.
Charge a NiMH or NiCd battery as follows:
• In the main menu, select the „NiMH“ or „NiCd“ charge program with the button „BATT
TYPE/STOP“.
• Press the button „START/ENTER“; the display shows the following, for example:
The left figure shows the manual mode (the charging current is specified by you); the
right figure shows automatic mode (the charging current is set by the charger; you only
specify the upper limit).

If you now briefly push the button „INC“ or „DEC“, you access the discharge program
(„DISCHARGE“), then the cycle program („CYCLE“) and return to the charge
program („CHARGE“), see chapter 12. b) and 12. c).
• Briefly push the „START/ENTER“ button to access setup mode. The current value in the
lower right of the display flashes.
