Starting the system and checking its functions
Frost protection function
As protection against icing up, the
frost protection function prevents the
secondary side (extract air side) of
the countercurrent heat exchanger
from freezing as a result of the con-
densate that is created.For this, the
outside and extract air flow are regu-
lated subject to the outside air tem-
perature and the pressure at the heat
exchanger. Initially, the outside air
flow rate is reduced to defrost the
heat exchanger.
Subject to the thickness of the ice, the
extract air flow rate can be stopped
completely. In regular short intervals
the PCB checks whether the ventila-
tion fan can be restarted. An electric
pre-heater bank (accessory) or a
geothermal heat exchanger (on-site
provision) is required if the activation
of the frost protection function is to be
prevented. This applies particularly to
passive houses.
Simultaneous operation with open flue combustion equipment
For this, the frost protection function
must be assured through an electric
pre-heater bank (accessory) or a
geothermal heat exchanger (on-site
provision). Nevertheless, the Vitovent
(see page 6 and technical guide) must
still be interlocked in both cases.
