Test Serial Ports

Data may be transmitted between two sets of serial connectors on the Powerplus in order to verify
communications between these ports.

Keypads and receivers use RS-422 communications and are

connected to J3 and J4, respectively. Ports 

 and J2 are RS-232 ports for the host computer and printer.

Both RS-232 and RS-422 communications will be tested using test cables or jumper wires to connect the

appropriate ports.

Perform the following steps to test the four Powerplus serial ports. Disconnect all power to the Powerplus

before making connections.

Connections must be made between the serial ports using jumper wires or test cables. Refer to Table 4.
Connect J3 to J4 to test RS-422 communications and connect 

 to J2 to test RS-232 communications.

Connect power to the unit and turn the card cage ON using the power switch on the front panel. Press

the Enter key to test serial port communications.

The status of the tests will display onscreen. If a test fails, first check the connections made between the
serial ports, then contact Vicon’s Technical Support Department.
