Video quality settings
(Advanced Mode) must be configured for each stream. Best performance generally
equates to the fastest image refresh rate with the best video quality, at the lowest network bandwidth as
possible. The three factors, “Maximum frame rate,” “Constant bit rate,” and “Fixed quality” for H.264/MPEG-4
mode and “Maximum frame rate” and “Video quality” for JPEG mode, are correlative to allow for achieving
the best performance possible.
Select the type of compression,
MPEG-4
,
H.264
or
JPEG
. When using a combination of MPEG-4 and JPEG
configurations for streams 1 and 2, Vicon recommends that MPEG-4 be designated as stream 1. (Note: For
use with ViconNet VMC, set to JPEG.) The fields on the screen vary according to the mode selected. Select
a
Frame Size
from 1600x1200, 800x600, 640x480, 320x240 or 174x144. For
“Maximum frame rate”
, how
many frames can be compressed and transmitted per second, choose from 1-30 fps (or Customize; video
quality first cannot be checked for 30 fps); this limits the maximal refresh frame rate, which can be combined
with the
“Video quality”
to optimize bandwidth utilization and video quality. Video quality and Fixed quality
refer to compression rate; a lower value produces higher quality. In MPEG-4/H.264 mode, select an “
Intra
frame period”
of ¼, ½, or 1-4 seconds (this field is not available for JPEG mode). For “
Video Quality”
(in
MPEG-4/H.264 mode), select “
Constant bit rate”
or “
Fixed quality”
(only the fixed video quality is available
in JPEG mode). Constant bit rate maintains the bandwidth utilization regardless of the video quality; Fixed
quality maintains quality but the bandwidth utilization varies. A range of bit rates is available to choose from;
select from Medium, Standard, Good, Detailed or Excellent for quality. These values can be customized by
manually entering a value.
Vicon suggests that the Constant Bit Rate be selected, since it provides more
exact control over the network.
The
Day/Night settings
allow the user to turn on and configure the day/night features of the camera. Check
Switch to B/W in night mode
to enable the camera to automatically switch to black & white during night
mode. The
IR cut filter
can be set to be automatically removed to let IR light into the sensor during low light
conditions. Select
Auto mode
, where the camera judges the ambient light level and automatically removes
the filter,
Day mode
, where the camera switches on the IR filter at all times to block infrared light so colors
are not distorted,
Night mode
, where the camera switches off the IR filter at all times to allow infrared light to
improve low light sensitivity,
Synchronize with digital input
, where the camera automatically removes the
filter when DI triggers (
not available with ViconNet
) or
Schedule mode
, where the camera switches between
day and night mode based on a specified schedule of a start and end time of day mode (hh:mm, 24-hour
time mode; default is 07:00 and 18:00). Select the
Light sensor sensitivity
, Low, Normal, or High.
