Installing the Heat Sink + Fan Assembly 

Install the heat sink + fan assembly (VL-HDW-413) using these steps: 

1.  Apply the Arctic Silver

 Thermal Compound 

•

 

Apply the HDW-401 thermal compound to the heat plate using the method described on 
the Arctic Silver website - 

http://www.arcticsilver.com/

  

2.  Position the fan assembly 

 

Using the figure above as a guide, align the mounting holes of the heat sink fan with the 
four holes in the passive heat sink. Position the fan so that its power cable is on the side 
nearest the J18 CPU fan connector.  

3.  Connect power to the fan 

 

Connect the fan’s power cable to the J18 CPU fan connector on the Lion board.  

Installing the VL-HDW-408 Heat Pipe Block 

1.  Apply the Arctic Silver Thermal Compound (VL-HDW-401) 

 

Apply the thermal compound to the heat plate using the method described on the Arctic 
Silver website - 

http://www.arcticsilver.com/

 . The 4 mm heat pipes will also typically have 

the thermal compound applied to where the pipes contact both the heat plate and the 
block. 

2.  Position the heat pipe block 

 

Align the mounting holes of the heat pipe block with the heat plate. 

3.  Secure the heat pipe block to the heat plate
