Always exerc ise caution when in slip pery
conditions (caused by sand, gravel, water,
snow or ice on the road), in order to
maintain vehicle control.
Use the accelerator to control the v ehicle -
keep brake peda l use to a m inimum.

Do not slip the clutc h.
z
Do not spin the wheels.
z
Do not m ake exaggerated or jerk y
steering movements.
Driving a vehicle in snow and ice should be
undertaken with extreme caution:
z
Select a g ear suitable for the cond itions.
z
Start the v ehicle moving with minimal
engine revs, low gear and c om bined
clutch a nd accelerator control.
z
Change to a higher gear as quickly as
possible, to keep the engine revs low.
z
With automatic transmission

Off-road driving
During off-road driving, you will encounter
a variety of driving conditions and
circum stances too numerous to list here.
Alw ays use good jud gement and common
sense. If you feel uncomfortable about
tackling a giv en situa tion, d o not attempt
it.
Av oid protrud ing ob jects (such as rocks or
tree stumps) that may dama ge the
underbody a nd tyres of your vehicle.
Test the brak es after operating in mud, to
clear excess mud from the brak ing
surfaces.
Gripping the steering w heel
Terrain conditions can cause rapid and
unexpected movem ent in the steering,
especially roug h terrain.
Prepara tion
The dura tion, distance and conditions of
the off-road a ctiv ity determine the extent
of the preparation that is required . The
following are given a s g uidelines.
Know the area where you will b e driv ing,
either by inspection or from terrain maps.
Decide your route in advance and ensure
that it is a v ehicular right of way

Mak e a thorough check of the v ehicle.
Check the following:

Oil, water, fuel, brake and clutch fluid
levels,
z
Driv e b elts,
z
Windscreen wiper and wash system,
z
Lights.
