Keep tow rope 3 clear of front b um per,
and ensure it is securely fixed to the towing
eye at both ends. Pull on the tow rope 3 to
check .
To prevent entry of exha ust fumes from
towing vehic le, switch on air recircula tion
mode (see page 106) and close the
windows.
Never let pa ssengers ride in a v ehicle tha t
is being towed.
Never tow a vehicle w ith d amaged parts
that are not secured to the vehicle or if
wheels, brakes or steering are dama ged.
Do not tow the vehicle with a tow rope

for extended periods, to av oid
dam age to the vehic le. Only tow in this
manner on hard-surfa ced road s.
For vehicles with automatic transmission

use flatbed or wheel lift eq uipm ent only.
Towing can cause severe dam age to the
transm ission.
Seek the assistance of a workshop .
Tow ing service
Entrust your v ehicle only to the towing
service of your choice and obta in a n
estimate on towing costs b efore emp loying
any towing service. This will prev ent
unnec essary expense a nd possible
insurance problems during claim
proc essing.
Use fla tb ed equipment whenever possib le.
If vehicle is to be towed using a w heel lift,
tow with all wheels off the road, using a
tow ing dolly.
Nev er use sling-type equipment to tow the
vehicle or tow the v ehicle with the front or
rear wheels on the road, to avoid ca using
serious dam age to the vehic le.
Plac e the gea rshift lever in neutral

ha zard warning lights, turn k ey to starter
switch position ACC and release the
ha nd bra ke before towing the vehic le.
Towing another vehicle
In emergency situations only, attach a tow
rope
3 - or better still a tow rod 3 - to the
rear towing eye.
The rear towing eye attachment
3 is stored
below the floor cover in the luggag e
compa rtm ent.
Remove the cover located on the rear
bumper by pressing the lower part of the
cover.
