All Wheel Drive

3

All Wheel Driv e (AWD) is an active-on-

demand system that engages
automatically, with no action required by

the d riv er. Depend ing on the driving
env ironment, the vehicle switches between

two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, to
give the vehicle more traction and stab ility

when necessary.
If the front wheels begin to slip, the rear

wheels will autom atically begin to driv e the
vehic le as required.
More torque is transferred to the wheels
that have the m ost traction, so the v ehicle

has optimum grip a t all times.
There may be a slig ht engagement noise

during hard use.
As well as ena bling the v ehicle to be driven

off-road , this system also enables the
vehic le to be driven on norm al roads

without incurring excessive tyre a nd
drivetrain wear or causing poor control.

All Wheel Drive control ind icator

When the ignition is switched on,
control indicator

B

illuminates for approx.

4 seconds. The system is ready for
op eration when the control indicator

extinguishes.
If the control indicator flashes d uring

driving, All Wheel Drive  is temporarily
disab led.
If it fla shes briefly then exting uishes, this is
normal  and does not indicate a fault.
If the control indicator flashes
continuously,  there is a fault in the system.

Consult a work shop as soon as possible.

On-road dr iving

The increased traction of All Wheel Drive

vehicles offers greater driving control in
adv erse road cond itions, particularly

hea vy snow and ice. However, All Wheel
Drive vehicles are not "skid-p roof" and do

not decrease stopping distances.
All Wheel Drive vehicles hav e a hig her

centre of gravity than conv entiona l
vehicles. Always a pproach curves at an

app ropriate driving speed. Do not attempt
to go as fast throug h turns as you might in

a conv entional vehicle.
Strong crossw inds can a ffect the normal

steering of the vehicle. Driv e slower under
strong crosswind conditions.
