when carrying out maintenance

lways cut away from yourself when using a knife or chisel

art that you are cutting or sawing

e careful with the tools that you use when assembling the log cabin

Make sure
that you know how to handle any electrical tools used

urchase if you maintain it
p

.
We would advise the following treatment for your cabin:

arry out maintenance before the old coat of stain or
p
aint is badly weathered
.
D
e
p
ending on its condition, the surface may require one or two coats of stain
or
p
aint
.
I
f most of the stain or
p
aint has already weathered away, the surface
should be well sanded
.
Roof: roofing shingles/roofing felt
D
o not walk on the roofing shingles or roofing felt during hot, sunny weather, to
p
revent footmarks
.

The following Terms and
C
onditions determine the circumstances in which
U
ni
-
verso
C
onsumer
P
roducts
B
V (hereinafter referred to as “
U
niverso”) will
p
rovide
a guarantee, and the level of that guarantee, without
p
rejudice to the rights or
claims accruing to the consumer by virtue of legislative
p
rovisions
.
U
niverso
p
rovide a two
-
year guarantee on their log cabins, in accordance with
the following conditions:

D
efective
p
roducts which are demonstrably attributable to faults in ma
-
terials and
/
or the assembly instructions will be re
p
laced or re
p
aired follow
-
ing assessment by
U
niverso and taking account of the following terms and
conditions,
p
rovided the defects are re
p
orted to
U
niverso within
2
months of
their discovery
.
Where a defect is revealed within
6
months of delivery, it will
be deemed already to have been
p
resent on delivery, unless the nature of the
defect militates against this inter
p
retation
.

The guarantee does not cover variations inherent in a natural
p
roduct like
s
p
ruce timber, such as:
•
K
nots u
p
to
20
mm which come loose and fall out of the wood;
•
K
nots which have grown into the wood;
•
K
nots which have fallen out of the edges of boards, but which are concealed
in the finished structure;
•
S
taining and or discoloration of the wood;
•
S
hort cracks (in cross
-
cut ends);
•
S
hrinkage cracks;
•
R
esin inclusions;
•
B
ending and deformation of timber;
The foregoing shall a
pp
ly to the extent that there are no negative effects on the
structure and its stability
.
H
oles caused by knots falling out should be sealed
with
p
lastic wood
.
3.
D
efects arising from the following causes do not fall within the guarantee:
•
F
oundations which are not level;
• The lack of a moisture
-
regulating coating of
p
aint, stain or a suitable im
p
reg
-
nating agent;
• The lack of wind anchoring or roof anchoring;
•
F
ailure to adequately heat roofing shingles or roofing felt during construc
-
tion of the roof covering;
•
F
ixed or sticking
p
rofile elements, angle
p
osts and
/
or windows or doors due
to nails, screws, glue or
p
aint
.
This may mean that the
p
rofile elements can
no longer move freely, causing cracks to a
pp
ear
.
• Winds
p
eeds of
B
eaufort scale

or above;
N
atural disasters or other destructive external effects, such as lightning, rain
-
storms or whirlwinds
.
4.
N
o claim will exist under the guarantee where the defects in the cabin are
attributable to im
p
ro
p
er use, inadequate or incorrect maintenance, or failure to
com
p
ly with the assembly instructions
.
The guarantee shall la
p
se in the event
that any re
p
airs or modifications are carried out by
p
ersons not a
pp
ro
p
riately
authorised by
U
niverso, or where the cabin is
p
rovided with s
p
are
p
arts, ex
p
an
-
sions or accessories other than original com
p
onents, causing a defect
.
5.
Guarantee claims will be handled in such a way that unsound com
p
onents
will be re
p
aired or re
p
laced by sound com
p
onents, according to
U
niverso’s
judgement
.
The guarantee is
p
rovisional on the submission of the
p
urchase
recei
p
t, showing
p
urchase and
/
or delivery date
.
A
ny com
p
onents re
p
laced will
become the
p
ro
p
erty of
U
niverso
.
6.
A
ll other or more extensive claims, and in
p
articular claims for com
p
ensation
for damage caused to items outside the cabin itself, are excluded, to the extent
that the liability does not flow from legislative sti
p
ulations of mandatory law
.
7.
A
guarantee claim shall not lead to an extension of the guarantee
p
eriod,
nor shall it constitute the commencement of a new guarantee
p
eriod
.
The
guarantee
p
eriod for re
p
lacement or re
p
aired com
p
onents shall terminate at
the same time as the guarantee
p
eriod for the cabin as a whole
.
8.
The
guarantee
p
eriod will commence on the day of
p
urchase (the date
stated on the
p
urchase recei
p
t) and will have a duration of
2
years
.
9.
A
ny com
p
laint relating to defects must be notified by
p
hone or in writing
to the
U
niverso dealer within
2
months of its detection, stating the model of
the cabin, the code for the com
p
onents to which the
p
roblem relates, and with
submission of the
p
urchase recei
p
t for the cabin
.

ly only where the cabin has

urchased from one of
U
niverso’s official dealers or through their distribu

tion channels in

uro
p
e
.
