UJ smart fastening system:
It utilizes one socket head screw that is spring loaded and a former clamping the tip of the plywood nose
structure.
Mount the screw tab at 90 degrees on the nose cone former. Make sure it clears the nose tray slot. Adjust if
necessary.
Glue with Hysol E-20 NS. Let it thoroughly cure for 8 hours.
Insert the assembled nose cone former at the tip of the nose tray. It should fit smoothly but without any
play. Adjust the nose tray to achieve this. Also ensure that the 3 mm hole centers exactly relative to the
sides of the tray. When all is centered, drill at 3 mm through the tab hole to get through the nose tray.
Enlarge the new 3 mm hole to 5 mm and insert the blind not from below.
Remove the assembly. Sand the nose tray tips at 45 degrees for the first 2 mm to facilitate the insertion of
the former. Fit the former back on the tip of the tray. The tab 3 mm hole should align with the blind nut
exactly. If not, adjust. When everything is aligned, glue the blind nut from below with Hysol E-20 HP.
Scuff the inside of the nose cone at the gluing location. fit the cone and verify that the former does not
push on the cone. There should be a 0.5 mm clearance between the former and the cone to allow gluing.
Mark the position of the former on the outside of the nose cone with a few sections of tape.
Remove the nose cone and apply Hysol E-20NS on the nose former sides and inside the nose cone at the
position previously market with the tapes.
Insert the cone back in position and firmly secure into the fuselage with a series of tape sections.
Let it thoroughly dry overnight.
Drill a 3 mm hole 3 mm behind the position of the newly glued former, at the top of the nose cone, on the
molding seam. Verify that this hole coincides with the hole of the screw tab and the blind nut.
Remove the tapes and the nose cone. Check the fitting that should be firm and without play.
Enlarge the 2 mm hole at the top of the nose cone to 6 mm.
Insert the 6 mm aluminum tube into that hole. glue with Hysol E-20 NS making a bead on the sides of the
tube from the inside of the cone. Before the glue sets, insert the M3 socket head screw into the tube and
through the 3 mm hole of the screw tab to ensure that the head of the socket centers properly into the tube.
Adjust the tube position slightly if necessary.
Let the glue thoroughly set. Remove the M3 socket head screw and insert the nose cone into position.
Drop the compression spring into the 6 mm aluminum hole. Insert the screw into the 6 mm tube and
through the compression spring. Tighten it into the blind nut. The nose should now be firmly set in
position without any play, neither vertically, nor horizontally.
Insert the short section of 5 mm tube into the 6 mm tube and make sure it comes flush with the top of the
nose cone. Tack glue with a drop of thin CA and spray accelerator. Un-tighten the M3 screw immediately
to ensure that no CA goes into the thread.
The socket head screw should now be spring-loaded up and blocked by the 5 mm tube.
