Maintenance and cleaning
CAUTION!
Prior to every intervention (initial assembly, cleaning, installation and replacement of the UVC lamp etc.), the power supply for the UVC device and
the pump must first be disconnected!
Contamination drainage
The BioPressure II mainly functions maintenance-free. Dependent on the degree of contamination in the pond water, dirt deposits may however have an adverse effect on cleaning.
Therefore, (depending on the degree of contamination), the dirt deposits should be rinsed out approximately every 2 weeks.
1. If the closure cap (glass) is mounted on the contamination outlet, remove it and connect the black general-purpose hose nozzle with hose.
2. Turn the function switch (B) to the position “Cleaning operation” until you hear a quiet click. The water will now flow out of the opening for the contamination outlet (I).
3. During „Cleaning operation“, it is possible to press the function switch (B) downwards to squeeze out the filter sponge slightly, without having to take it out of the device. Do this
carefully! Excessively fast or forceful pressure can break the inner plastic ring.
5. When the water running out of the filter is almost clear, turn the function switch back to the “Filter operation” position.
6. Now you can re-mount the closure cap (glass) on the contamination outlet.
Note
: Please do not completely wash out/rinse out the filter. Established bacteria cultures would then be partially or completely destroyed, which would have an adverse effect on the
cleaning performance until they have re-established themselves.
Cleaning the filter sponges
If, in spite of contaimination drainage, the pressure in the filter continues to increase, the filter sponges must be washed out. To help you, please observe the control indicator (D) on
the top of the cover.

1. Always first switch off the integrated UV-C device and then the pump
2. Remove all the hose connections on the filter
3. Open and remove the locking bar of the filter (see Figs. 1, 2, 3)
4. Lift off the cover and place on a clean surface with the top side up (see Fig. 4).
5. Remove the top filter layer by first pressing down on the plastic ring slightly and then turning it slightly until it moves upwards easily. Now pull off the first layer of the filter sponge
and remove the other filter layers, filter sponges and pipes in the same way (see Figs. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).
6. Squeeze out and wash out the filter sponges well with tap water.
7. Rinse out the filter body and cover with a garden hose.
8. Insert the filter sponges, filter layers and pipes in the opposite sequence again. Start with the large blue filter sponge, then alternate between yellow and blue.
9. Observe the recesses in the plastic rings and filter sponges so that the filter sponges lie closely against each other. Leaving ntermediate spaces or tilting will make assembly far
more difficult.
10. Press the cover into position on the filter housing and then close the clamping ring over the edge of the filter housing and cover and close the filter (see installation).
Replacing the UV-C lamp
The UV-C device integrated in the BioPressure filter is equipped with a UV-C lamp with a lifetime of approx. 8,000 operating hours. After this time, the UV-C power is reduced so
much that the UV-C lamp will have to be replaced. The required UV-C replacement bulb can be obtained from your Ubbink specialist trader. Only use a UV-C lamp which accords in
designation and power with the information stated on the type plate.
Replace the UV-C lamp as follows:
1. Unscrew the handle and then unscrew the screws from the UV-C cover which is fxed on the filter (see Fig. 11)
2. Remove the UV-C cover, carefully pull the UV-C lamp out of the socket and then carefully insert the UV-C replacement lamp (see Figs.12, 13, 14)
3. Reapply the UV-C cover and screw this and the handle tight (see Fig. 15, 16).
Caution: Do not touch the UV-C lamp with your bare hands!! This may damage the lamp.
Cleaning / replacing the UV-C quartz glass
The UV-C quartz glass should be cleaned at least two to three times per year of contamination and limescale, depending on the algae growth in the pond and the degree of
contamination of the pond water.
1. Always first switch off the integrated UV-C device and then the pump.
2. To make the maintenance work easier, we recommend that you completely empty the filter.
3. Remove the UV-C cover, as described under Replacing the UV-C lamp.
4. Remove the UV-C lamp, and then carefully pull the UV-C quartz glass out of the housing.
This is plugged in, and can simply be pulled out. A rubber ring prevents slipping.
5. Clean the UVC quartz glass with tapwater and a soft cleaning cloth.
Caution!!
Avoid scratching the quartz glass and if possible do not contact the glass bulb directly with your hands. Due to the UV-C radiation, perspiration and grease burn into
the glass bulb and can cause a reduction in the performance of the UV-C device.
6. Rinse out the plastic housing in which the UV-C quartz glass is contained with water and dry the housing prior to assembly.
7. Carefully dry off the UV-C quartz glass before replacing it.
8. Replace the UV-C lamp and close the UV-C section again by following the instructions for opening backwards.
9. Then always switch on the pump first before switching on the UV-C device.
Storage/winter storage
Whe the first frosts come, the pressure filter must be dismantled and kept somewhere free of frost. Previously, however, it should be thoroughly cleaned and the device tested for
damage.

• Ensure that the device is switched off if no water is flowing through the device.
• The pressure filter may only be operated at a water temperature of +5 °C to +35 °C.
• A UV-C device with obvious damage may not be operated!
• It is not possible to exchange the mains cable on the UV-C device. If the cable is damaged, the UV-C device must be correctly disposed of.
• The pressure filter is not suitable for use by people (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities or with a lack of experience and knowledge unless they
are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or have received instructions regarding the use of the device. Children must be monitored in order to ensure that they do not
play with the device.
Use
The BioPressure II is a mechanical/biological function pressure filter with an integrated UV-C device for setting up next to the pond above and below the water level. The filtered pond
water can also be pumped through the pressure filter to higher waterfalls. In order to achieve visible results with the UV-C irradiation, the pond water should be completely circulated
at least once within 2 hours (pond with fishstock) or 4 hours (pond without fish stock).
Installation
CAUTION!

the pump must always first be disconnected!
1. Determine the location of the BioPressure filter (observe the safety guidelines). Assembly of the filter is possible both above-ground and installed in the earth. When digging in the
BioPressure filter up to the cover height, ensure that the filter is positioned horizontally and well back-filled with earth or sand.
2. Insert the large rubber sealing ring into the edge of the filter body. It is essential that you ensure that the rubber sealing ring does not twist or tilt on insertion. Only in this way can
you be sure that the cover can be correctly mounted and that no water can subsequently leak out from between the two filter parts.
Tip:
Moisten the rubber sealing ring with a little water and then insert it slightly elevated onto the upper edge of the filter container. Whilst pressing on the cover, the rubber
sealing ring then rolls down into position.
3. Press the cover into position onto the filter housing and then lay the clamping ring over the edge of the filter housing and cover and close the filter.
4. Filter inlet (A):
Shorten the general-purpose hose nozzle (black) to suit the pond hose and screw it tight onto the filter inlet.
Shorten the pond hose to the required length, attach it to the pump and filter inlet on the hose nozzles and secure using hose clamps. Set up the pump in the pond on firm ground,
free of sludge and sand. Prior to commissioning the pump, read the instructions for use and observe the safety guidelines and the specifications for minimum submersion depth.
When connecting the hose nozzles, use the appropriate sealing rings.
5. Filter outlet (J):
Shorten the transparent general-purpose hose nozzle to suit the pond hose and screw it tight onto the filter outlet.
Shorten the pond hose to the required length, then attach one end of the hose onto the hose nozzle and secure with a hose clamp. Lay the other end of the hose back to the pond
or to the waterfall. When connecting the hose nozzle, use the appropriate sealing ring. If the filtered water is directly conducted back into the pond, the water should flow in from a
drop height of approx. 15-20 cm.
6. Contamination outlet (I):
Shorten the black general-purpose hose nozzle to suit the pond hose and screw it tight onto the contamination outlet.
Shorten the pond hose to the required length, then attach one end of the hose onto the hose nozzle and secure with a hose clamp. Lay the other end of the hose back to the point
at which the contaminated water should be disposed of. When connecting the hose nozzle, use the appropriate sealing ring.
Guideline:
For the duration of the filter operation, you can also close this outlet with a cap. To do this, mount the closure cap (glass) onto the contamination outlet and screw it
tight using the ring. Keep the hose nozzle with hose for later “Cleaning operation”.
7. Before you put the pressure filter into operation, ensure once again that all cable connections and hose connections fit correctly and that the filter with the seal is well closed. The
function switch (B) must be switched to “Filter function”.
8. Always first switch on the pump and check that the water flows evenly through the pressure filter and that there are no leakages on the filter and on the hose connections. Only
then should the UV-C device be switched on.
9. It is important that your pressure filter runs continuously. The filter should only be completely shut down for maintenance and during the winter period. We recommend that you
keep the UV-C device switched off until the bacteria have developed (6-8 weeks).
10. If the pressure filter should be shut down (maintenance and winter period), the UV-C device must always be shut down first. Only then should the pump be switched off and the
water drained from the pump.
Guideline:
This BioPressure pressure filter is equipped with a filter mat set, on the structures of which those contamination particles and floating matter can be deposited which,
within 6-8 weeks of the filter being commissioned, can help to contribute towards the development and build-up of bacteria cultures required for both mechanical and biological
filtration. Therefore, give your pressure filter the possibility to develop its filter properties fully within this time, without these being partially or completely interrupted.
