Hearing protection (complying with Australian Standard AS1270 Acoustics
– Hearing Protection
)
will be used where the daily noise dose is likely to be exceeded or when excessive noise is
generated. (e.g. Cutting metal with power tools). Eye protection (complying with
Australian
Standard AS1337
– Eye Protectors for Industrial Applications
) will be worn when there is a risk of
injury to the eyes. (e.g. Using a grinder or cutting with a saw).
In addition to the Personal Protective Equipment, requirements of The White Ant Co, any site
specific requirements must be met.
Chemicals and Substances
Works carried out using chemicals or substances, work procedures will follow the manufacturers’
recommendations on the labelling and the relevant Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for the
product. MSDS can be obtained by contacting the manufacturer. MSDS for all designated
hazardous substances will be kept on site. Copies of relevant MSDS should be carried by the
contractor at all times and supplied on request.
Manual Handling
Good manual handling techniques will be adopted including:
(a) minimise the weight of materials as much as possible;
(b) when bending or lifting try to vary duties or change posture;
(c) when bending to lift objects maintain a straight back and bent knees to a semi-squat where
your feet are stable on the ground and you assume a power lifter stance;
(d) when lifting awkward or heavy items, use mechanical aids or where this is not possible, use
team lifting where people are trained.
Stability of Structure
An initial inspection of the frame will be done to ensure it is sound and safe. Any temporary
bracing or temporary propping will not be removed without prior approval from the principal
contractor.
Entry is not to be made to a worksite if any roofing is being carried out
– sheet or tile. To do so is a
direct breach of the Workplace Health and Safety Regulations.
Alcohol and Drugs/Animals
No alcohol or drugs will be permitted on site nor will any persons be permitted to work on site
under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Animals (restrained or unrestrained) will not be allowed on
any site.
Should the contractor require prescription medication that may affect his judgement or ability to
work safely, a clearance from a doctor is required and The White Ant Co must be notified. Site
specific and legal requirements must also be followed.
Weather conditions
Weather conditions will be anticipated and precautions taken. Work will not be started or will
cease until weather conditions become suitable. Hazards which result from adverse conditions
include:
(a) an increased risk of falling due to wet and slippery work surfaces
(b) materials being caught by the wind leading to falling objects and / or an increased risk of
people falling.
Reporting of Incidents and Non-compliances
The White Ant Co will be advised of any identified hazards that cannot be suitably and legally
addressed. All incidents that result in injuries that require medical treatment, any near misses that
had the potential to result in injuries requiring medical attention, and all property damage will be
reported immediately to The White Ant Co using the Incident Notification Form provided. The
White Ant Co will also be immediately advised of any notices or warning issued by the health and
safety authority to the Termite Barrier System Installer for non-compliance.
