1.0 Overview
All waste materials containing bifenthrin must be stored and disposed of in a safe manner. This is a
requirement of the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA). Having
said this, there should be minimal waste material due to the nature of the products. Waste materials
which would require safe storage and disposal include empty containers/packaging, spilled adhesive
materials and any off-cuts from the application of the Protectant™ Termite Barrier System on-site.
2.0 Waste Disposal
2.1 Protectant™ Termite Barrier
The Protectant™ Termite Barrier contains small amounts of bifenthrin. Although this bifenthrin is
fixed in the coating material, it is a requirement of the APVMA that any unused material is placed
in a suitable sealed container, and that local and state regulations are followed for the disposal of
solid waste in a Government approved industrial waste disposal facility. It should be remembered
that the Protectant™ Termite Barrier off-cuts can be incorporated into the Barrier System during
installation or used during repair applications.
The Barrier is supplied in re-sealable plastic bags. These plastic bags should be treated as being
potentially contaminated with bifenthrin and must be disposed of in the same manner as would any
discarded bifenthrin containing product. One of these bags should be used by the Installers to
collect any waste materials including used outer packaging. Once this “waste” container is full it is
to be returned to The White Ant Co to arrange for disposal at a Government approved industrial
waste disposal facility.
2.2 ADSOL ADHESIVE
The ADSOL ADHESIVE product does not contain bifenthrin. It is a requirement that any unused
material is allowed to dry and is then placed in a suitable sealed container and local and state
regulations are followed for the disposal of solid waste in a Government approved industrial waste
disposal facility. The same disposal procedures should be used for product containers.
Spilled material that is absorbed is collected, allowed to dry and is then placed with other “waste”
materials in suitable waste containers.
Used containers should not be re-used, they must be returned to the White Ant Co for disposal.
Empty containers may retain residue and can be dangerous. Do not use mechanical cutting tools on
used containers. All empty, used containers should be allowed to dry before being returned.
