Replacing a flat tire

●

Observe the following precautions.

Failure to do so may result in serious injury:
• Do not touch the disc wheels or the area around the brakes immediately

after the vehicle has been driven.

After the vehicle has been driven the disc wheels and the area around

the brakes will be extremely hot. Touching these areas with hands, feet

or other body parts while changing a tire, etc. may result in burns.

• Remove the spare tire before jacking up the vehicle. If the spare tire is

removed after jacking up the vehicle, the tire holder and the spare tire

may interfere with the jack and cause a serious accident.

●

Failure to follow these precautions could cause the wheel nuts to loosen

and the tire to fall off, resulting in death or serious injury.
• Have the wheel nuts tightened with a torque wrench to 515 N•m

(52.5 kgf•m, 380 ft•lbf) as soon as possible after changing wheels.

• When installing a tire, only use wheel nuts that have been specifically

designed for that wheel.

• If there are any cracks or deformations in the bolt screws, nut threads or

bolt holes of the wheel, have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota

dealer.

• When installing the wheel nuts, be sure to install them with the tapered

ends facing inward. (



To avoid a serious accident

To avoid a serious accident, apply engine oil to the grooves of the stop bolts

and the wheels nuts. No matter how much you try to tighten them, the nuts

may not be securely tightened and the wheels may fall off.

■

Replacing a flat tire for vehicles with automatic passengers’ door (glide
type)

In cases such as when replacing tires, make sure to disable the automatic

passengers’ door operation using the cancel switch (



P. 95). Failure to do

so may cause the automatic passengers’ door to operate unintentionally if

the automatic passengers’ door control switch is accidentally touched,

resulting in hands and fingers being caught and injured.
