Starting and Shutting Off the
Engine
Starting the Engine
1. Raise the ROPS up, lock it into place, sit on the seat,
and fasten the seat belt.
2. Move the motion-control levers to the N
EUTRAL
-
LOCK
position.
3. Set the parking brake; refer to Setting the Parking
Brake (page 19) .
4. Move the blade-control switch (PTO) to the O
FF
position ( Figure 19 ).
5. Move the throttle lever midway between the S
LOW
and
F
AST
positions.

6. Turn the ignition key to the S
TART
position ( Figure 20 ).
Note:
When the engines starts, release the key.
Important:
Do not engage starter for more than 5
seconds at a time. If the engine fails to start, wait
15 seconds between attempts. Failure to follow
these instructions can burn out the starter motor.
Note:
You may need to attempt to start the engine
multiple times when you start it for the first time after
the fuel system has been without fuel completely.

CAUTION
Children or bystanders may be injured if they
move or attempt to operate the machine while it is
unattended.
Always remove the ignition key and set the parking
brake when leaving the machine unattended, even
if just for a few minutes.
