Maintenance
This adjustment, (located at the head-end
of the main wing fold cylinders) is used to
fine-tune the transport position of the
wings, relative to the wing rests.
1. Retract outer wings
2. Retract tilt cylinders to fully tilt wings
upward.
3. Fully raise main lift.
4. Fully retract main wings.
5. Carefully lower main wings by
extending tilt cylinders. (It may take
several seconds before wings begin
lowering.) Stop lowering wings just
before they enter wing rests.
6. Inspect position of wings, relative to
wing rests. If wings do not line up
reasonably well with wing rests, adjust
main wing fold cylinder, using the
following procedure:
a. To bring wing closer to tank,
loosen outer jam nut, (closest to
cylinder) 1/2 turn on cylinder
adjustment bolt, followed by
tightening inner jam nut. Repeat
until wing is aligned with wing rest.
b. To pull wing further away from tank,
loosen inner jam nut, (furthest from
cylinder) 1/2 turn on cylinder
adjustment bolt, followed by
tightening outer jam nut. Repeat
until wing is aligned with wing rest.
7. Fully retract tilt cylinders to raise
wings from wing rests.
8. Fully extend main wing cylinders
9. Repeat steps 4 - 6, readjusting as
necessary.
Main Wing Fold Cylinder
(80’/90’ booms after S/N B21100200
and all 60’ booms)
Use the following procedure on these
booms.
1. Beginning with wings fully extended and
relatively level, adjust jam nuts near head
of cylinder until each inner wing section
is aligned with the center wing section.
2. Perform steps 1-5 from previous
procedure.
3. Inspect position of wings, relative to
wing rests. If wings do not line up
reasonably well with wing rests, adjust
main wing fold cylinder stop bolts as
needed until wings align correctly with
wing rests.
