The remainder of the inlet (including the capillary assembly
heater) is driven from a 24 Vdc supply.
In general, it is recommended that the inlet is switched off,
the mains and 24 Vdc cables disconnected, and the unit be
allowed to cool before carrying out any service work.
No routine maintenance is required on the system providing that the
incoming gases are correctly conditioned. The system will require
attention if there is a failure of the gas conditioning system resulting
in excessive liquid or particulate contamination. The system should
be tested periodically as indicated in the previous section to identify
issues that could compromise analytical performance.
In general it will be necessary to strip down the inlet system to clean
or replace affected part or parts. There are different procedures to
follow depending on whether a calibration or sample inlet is
involved. See below.
Caution!
Before starting any work, switch off all gas lines.
If required, the system should be purged with a suitable inert
gas, and the system exhaust isolated.
Liquid or solid contaminants might be encountered within the
inlet assembly during maintenance operations. The likely
composition of any such contaminants should be determined
so that appropriate safety measures can be put in place before
further work is carried out.
It is the responsibility of the user to assess the hazards
involved in breaking into any gas handling part of the system
based on knowledge of the sample and calibration gases used.
On calibration manifolds, the solenoid actuator is assembled through
the mounting plate so that operationally the electrical coil is inside
the instrument enclosure and gas handling parts of the manifold are
outside. A consequence of this is that it is not possible to remove and
inspect the solenoid valve assemblies of the calibration manifold
individually. When the mounting plate is removed all six actuator
assemblies will be exposed. The actuators are spring loaded and once
the manifold and mounting plate are separated they can detach from
the manifold body. Take care to ensure that parts are not lost or
contaminated. Work on a clear, clean work surface.
